Moderation constraint
Moderation constraint wears well in the Antarctic reality.
The Antarctic Treaty celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2009; the success of the Treaty makes it one of the world’s most successful international agreements. It is important to ask what gave the Treaty its impetus back then in 1959, people may not be aware of the signing of the Antarctic Treaty in 1959, yet it is a significant and a unique international agreement that has protected Antarctica for the past 50 years.
Why not Moderation constraint
There are several questions that can be asked about the regional conflicts, civil unrest and often the irrational despotic leaders that hang on to political power as hungry wild dogs would raising the hair on their neck and growling while they hang onto a raw meat bone as it was their first and the last meal.
What is it that makes humans behave so aggressively towards others?
Philosophy explanation to the irrational
There is also the philosophy approach that attempts to justify the irresponsibility of bad leadership.
“International Conflict Behavior is not a spasmodic, aimless, reactive flailing of hostile leaders, bent on simply hurting or destroying each other. Violence is not necessarily stupid or irrational. War is not necessarily insane”.
“Conflict Behavior is usually calculated to coerce, persuade, or bargain with the others party’s will. Or to overcome it through force”.
“Conflict Behavior is aimed toward the gratification or protection of some interests in opposition to those of others.
Such behavior manifests a balancing of powers with distinct sub phases and a determinate outcome–the balance of powers”.

The International Geophysical Year (IGY) of 1957–1958 marked the first major scientific research projects in Antarctica and showed that science could bring previously warring nations together. So it was then back in 1959 and so it can be again in the twenty-first century, Science bringing humanity into their higher potential being.
Moderation is the answer
Moderation is the key to global peace:
“Moderation is the process of eliminating or lessening extremes. It is used to ensure normality throughout the medium on which it is being conducted. Common uses of moderation include”.“Moderation is also a principle of life. In ancient Greece, the temple of Apollo at Delphi bore the inscription Meden Agan (μηδὲν ἄγαν) – ‘Nothing in excess’. Doing something “in moderation” means not doing it excessively”. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moderation
The key problem to resolving a conflict is not that the resolution cannot be understood, but rather that one party refuses to play the game fairly. Rules are easy to put in place, there are rules in all of the sport games of the modern world, in a sport and game, there are players on two sides or more that try to out compete the opposite side. Both can be equally ambitious, hungry to win and desperate to come on top. Without rules, a game could end up in a bloody disaster. But with moderation each player is required to exercise restraint and self-control, to be a good sport and play the game fair and square. That is the answer to the global and regional conflicts. There are those that obey the rules and there are those that reject any governing rules.
The Antarctic treaty sets out the rules for the player that participate in the Antarctic region, it has every ones interest in mind. The large picture is the global community and the future generations, the resources are not just an asset for the immediate generation to be consumed. The Antarctic treaty success has been known for moderation, constraint and civilized cooperation internationally, but same cannot be said for the Northern hemisphere North Pole Arctic region. The climate is changing and the petroleum corporations and governments are stirring up as the ice is melting with the apparent global warming. The Arctic may be known for frigid temperatures and extreme weather conditions, but melting ice is making it a prime target for hungry governments poised to jump at the chance to exploit the Arctic minerals and gas and oil resources.
Arctic On Ice for life?
There is a new race beginning in the Arctic due to the climate change that is taking place. This climate change is leading to the melting of ice, which is revealing a wealth of resources in this region. Now oil, gas and other minerals exploration is becoming the prime target of many countries that are looking to exploit the Arctic. Many experts are even claiming that the Arctic is home to about 20% of the oil and gas reserves in the world. This has resulted in the world’s super powers taking notice and taking claims. Arctic is quickly becoming a gigantic unrestrained temptation for the greed and exploitation of the globe natural resources.
How much more of the global resources does Russia want?
Why is Russia getting ready to making their move into the heart of the Arctic?
It comparison to other nations in the world Russia does not need more land and resources, they already have more than is their fair share globally speaking. However, they are still interested in taking as many claims and resources that have been kept frozen and hidden under the ice of the Arctic since our history begun. Oil and gas companies are continuing their pursuit of unconstrained greed as they explore Alaska, Canada and Norway. Some experts even believe that Arctic waters could be ice-free in the next decade.
Learn to share equally
The Arctic is a region is often known for the extreme inhabitable cold freezing winters, pristine environment, and the imaginary Santa s Polar cap. However, now that a substantial amount of gas and oil reserves have been found in this region, it might be more difficult than ever before to remain a place of moderation and constraint.
Greed can be very powerful and so far Russia has not backed down on their claim to the reserves that have been found in the Arctic under the ice. The global resources should be shared equally amongst the people who respect the planet. This is one way that humanity can foster respect to humanity, the quick and the dead is a dead end for humanity, it is over simplistic approach to community life, the many privileges that the modern world has made possible and even shared it with the Russia has been made possible through people’s commitment to peace and personal sacrifices made to the common good of humanity. Whether you are talking about the technology in hospitals, medicine, computer science, personal computers, telecommunications, phones, entertainment industry, television and movies, transport, cars, trains and planes, housing, electricity, textiles, clothing, footwear, eye care, glasses, etc, etc, all of the conveniences of the modern world in one form or other are there because genuine people did their bit to make the world a better place in serving others. Then there is also the social side of a local and global community, how much people sacrifice in their life to raise children, train, educate, feed, clothe, and love their children so that they would grow up to be good people and make the world a better place for all. Greed is a dirty word and no one should belittle it, and no one should gloat with price because they are more greedy than the rest.
The Arctic can have symbolic value where nations surrender their greed and lust for the Arctic natural resources and they place higher value towards making a sacrifice in by constraint and moderation so that the future generations will have something to be proud of the past generation. Greed is an irrational state of being, the flame of greed is never satisfied; it robs true meaning of life and human dignity.
